Post-Doctoral research projects
- Bioinformatics prediction and validation of novel candidate genes in diabetes mellitus
- In this project we extant an integrated bioinformatics analysis featuring genetic information from web resources, GeneOntology enrichment analysis and protein-protein interaction networks. A global protein-protein interaction network was made using medium-confidence interactions of HIPPIE database. Then this confidence scored and functionally annotated interactions were used for fetching of candidate genes described in three sets such as 171 type II diabetes genes reported in DisGeNet (set1), 409 genes associated with highly enriched GO terms (set2) and 1686 genes as hubs in the global network (set3). We propose about 64 candidate genes are closely associated with type II diabetes from which 37 genes were validated through their associations with the SNPs reported for diabetes and their functional enrichment analysis in the STRING database.
- Computational biology of protein kinases
- Protein kinases are a group of enzymes which play a significant role in every aspect of cellular metabolism. The kinases as mediators of protein phosphorylation are very important in disease pathophysiology (e.g. cancer) using mutational activation or by helping the neoplastic growth. They are considered one of the most important classes of drug targets and design and development of specific kinase inhibitors has, therefore, became a major strategy in drug discovery programs. The ATP binding site has been the established target for kinase inhibitor design. However, the problem of inhibitor selectivity at the highly conserved ATP site has led the kinase inhibitor research towards the identification of allosteric inhibitors. In the published book chapter we have discussed the structure of the kinase domain and the types of inhibitors focusing on allosteric inhibitors.
- The HNSCCDB database: a comprehensive database on head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
- HNSCC DB contains a variety of information such as transcriptomics, sequence and structure related to genes implicated in HNSCC. The database contains hundreds of modelled structures of the proteins for which there is no structural information is available. This fact makes the database unique and highly useful for those who are working in drug design and related projects. It provides a useful tool enabling the structure-based design of modulators of those proteins. Moreover, we have assimilated information from various sources including inhibitors (with IC50/ED50) etc.
